And . . .
James Hampton PhD, a long-time resident of Waterville Ohio, devoted over 20 years of teaching and service to The University of Toledo (Formerly Medical College of Ohio at Toledo - MCO). He joined the faculty in 1985, and over the years reached the rank of Professor. He is a graduate of Ohio University (BS in Mathematics) and West Virginia University (PhD. in cell biology/pathology). Among other things, he conducted research and taught Pathophysiology courses in the programs of Physician Assistant Studies, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Medicine and the Basic Health Sciences.
James and his wife Anne have 2 sons, Phillip and Michael. Both boys are graduates of Anthony Wayne High School and currently attend the University of Cincinnati (Phillip) and the United States Naval Academy (Michael).
In 2007, Dr. Hampton was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (
ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. This progressive neurodegenerative
disease has forced him to retire from the work that he so loved.
The James Hampton
Scholarship Fund was established to provide a lasting legacy for students at the University of Toledo. This scholarship benefits students who excel in the pathophysiology courses that Dr. Hampton taught at The University of Toledo (specifically Nursing and Physician Assistant classes).

Jim recently died in December 2009 but the giving back
continues as we strive to reach the amount
needed for his endowed scholarship. He was a remarkable man and his
legacy will live on.
